Loran Essays
For each essay question, please type point form responses, so I can determine how your responses should be organized.
Important Info
Your sense of Purpose is paramount
Have Pride in what you did or accomplished, but remain grounded. A person can’t win a scholarship by bragging.
Include details that help demonstrate your compassion, leadership, or decision-making. For example, include the first name of a student who benefitted from your work.
Initiatives over multiple years and on-going commitments are the most valued. Talk about your work and possibly your growth in the multiple years of the program. If a program is important to you, and you only did it for one year (Camp Next) – talk about how you will continue to support that program or other Youth initiatives after you leave Matheson.
In your interview or essays, feel free to mention how you will continue your volunteer work in university. This way, it is clear that you are genuinely committed to helping your community.
Community heroes do good work because they are inspired to, not for the recognition.
